In our experience the only way to live a happy and productive life is to put down all substances, this is called ‘abstinence’. We know putting down drugs/alcohol is not the end but merely the beginning, allowing us to do the real work on ourselves.
At Hope North East we know that the journey of recovery can be difficult and that help, support and guidance from other addicts who have walked the path before us; inspires, motivates and provides us with the belief that we can also do it. We know that being around and talking honestly with positive people we can relate to and identify with through shared experiences is massively therapeutic.
We know that as well as putting down all substances we need to distance ourselves from negative people, places and events and to embrace a new way of life with service to others at its core.
Spiritual values are at the heart of what we ‘do and are’ at Hope North East, we see that many people feel powerless in their lives and that until we reconnect to that power, long term recovery in our experience is not possible.
